Manchester United's hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a major blow as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. Leandro Trossard's first-half goal proved to be the only strike of the game, despite United's late push.

The win saw Arsenal move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, while United remained in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United.

The match was a cagey affair for much of the first half, with neither side able to create clear-cut chances. However, Arsenal took the lead in the 27th minute when Trossard capitalized on a mistake from United defender Lisandro Martinez to fire home from close range.

United had a chance to equalize just before half-time, but Marcus Rashford's header was well saved by Aaron Ramsdale. The hosts continued to press in the second half, but they were unable to break down Arsenal's resolute defense.

With time running out, United finally found a way through when substitute Anthony Elanga set up Alejandro Garnacho for a tap-in. However, the goal was ruled out for offside, leaving United with nothing to show for their efforts.
