Liverpool miss chance to reclaim top spot after thrilling 2-2 draw with Man Utd

Sub title

Manchester United and Liverpool played out a sensational 2-2 draw as Jurgen Klopp's side missed the chance to reclaim top spot in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah's late penalty salvaged a point for the Reds, but they remain two points behind leaders Arsenal.

Erik ten Hag's side took the lead through Jadon Sancho in the 16th minute, but Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool just four minutes later.

Marcus Rashford then restored United's lead in the 53rd minute, but Salah's penalty in the 81st minute earned Liverpool a share of the spoils.

The result leaves Liverpool in second place on 63 points, two behind Arsenal, while United remain third on 58 points.

It was a pulsating match between two of the Premier League's biggest clubs, and it was United who started the brighter.

They took the lead when Sancho collected a pass from Bruno Fernandes and fired home a low shot from the edge of the area.

Liverpool responded well to going behind, and they equalised through Gakpo, who headed home a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

United regained the lead early in the second half when Rashford latched onto a pass from Fernandes and slotted home.

Liverpool continued to push for an equaliser, and they were eventually rewarded when Salah converted a penalty after Diogo Dalot was adjudged to have fouled him in the area.

The result leaves Liverpool's title hopes hanging in the balance, while United will be buoyed by their performance ahead of their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla on Thursday.
